Doni Who? Doni was born in 1954, in Albany, Georgia. At age six, Doni and two younger brothers became products of a broken home when their parents determined that divorce was the only choice they had left. The boys were nurtured and raised by a single, working Mother who was the "most loving and caring person alive and the strongest woman who ever breathed". Although their family lived in what would have been considered poverty, the Helms boys never felt that they missed out on anything.At age 10, Doni became a member of the Boy Scouts of America and rapidly progressed up through the ranks, earning 40+ merit badges and numerous awards including the much coveted Organizers Pin, and the ultimate rank of Eagle. In 1967 Doni earned the newly introduced Computers merit badge and was hooked. Since the early 70s, he has worked professionally in the technology industry as a computer operator, programmer, systems analyst, trainer, and consultant to fortune 500 firms. Doni founded several technology companies, and has authored dozens of articles, white papers and training materials. Doni's newest book, titled "Tales From 3:16 Depot Street" is a collection of short stories about growing up the the Deep South. Although most of the characters names were changed to 'protect the innocent', they are all based upon the real, and in most cases, guilty characters that Doni grew up with. Tales From 3:16 Depot Street is now available for order at thousands of media outlets across the country and can be purchased directly from the publisher. Doni now lives in Marietta, Georgia with his high-school sweetheart and wife of thirty plus years, Susan. Granny Sue and Gampa have three wonderful children and a brand-new granddaughter who all live in the Marietta area with their families as well. |
Alter Ego - Gary LaDon Doni, who writes, produces, and records music under the stage name Gary LaDon, is also an accomplished musician, poet, songwriter, and singer, and has performed at countless venues nationwide. He made his debut television performance at age eight after winning a talent show. His latest television performance was as a winner on the now defunct Nashville Networks "You Can Be A Star". This performance was broadcast worldwide to an audience of over thirty million viewers, and resulted in correspondence from fans all over the globe.In the early 90s, Doni wrote, produced, and recorded eleven original songs on a CD collection released by Little Tree Records, titled Southland Lady. Two of the songs on this CD claimed the coveted number one spot on the MP3.com country music charts, and received wide-spread air play and critical acclaim from numerous media outlets, as well as record industry chart-makers. Doni has performed all around the greater Atlanta area with a group of friends, formally known as Mid-Life Crisis, and is currently working on his second CD release entitled "Next Time Around". "The Southland Lady CD is a compilation of songs that tell about love lost, love found, and love rediscovered.
